Tottenham fans react to the news of Toby Alderweireld’s contract extension

Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after the news of a contract extension for Toby Alderweireld was announced. The Belgian international saw his current deal with the club extended until 2020, but there is a catch.

Alderweireld’s deal was set to run out at the end of the current campaign, but in triggering an extension clause, Spurs have also included a £25m release clause, which would see the former Atletico Madrid defender leave the club if anyone meets that fee – one would assume a lot of clubs would see that as a bargain for a top-class defender.

Fans of the north London club have been crying out for the 29-year-old to sign a new contract, but they were not expecting any fresh terms to come with such a low release clause, which pretty much means Alderweireld’s time with the club is almost up.
